World Autism Awareness Day

April is Autism Awareness Month. In honor, throughout the month, we will be providing information on various aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorders including, what they are, prevalence, treatment options, and resources.

On December 18, 2007, during the 76th plenary meeting, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2nd as World Autism Awareness Day!

“Autism is not limited to a single region or a country; it is a worldwide challenge that requires global action.” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

In honor of World Autism Awareness Day this year, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) is unveiling Autism Awareness Stamps. The UNPA conducted a world-wide search, identifying talented artists with Autism, whose designs were used on the new stamps.  In honor of the three United Nations Post Offices (New York, Geneva, and Vienna), there are three different 20-stamp panes, each containing two distinct designs. Information on the chosen designs and their artists can be found on the United Nations website.

HandHoldAdaptive, is offering their AutismTrack application ($50), for FREE, today only, in honor of Autism Awareness Day.  We have not yet used this application, but are excited they have chosen to make this application available for free and look forward to checking it out!

How can you celebrate World Autism Awareness Day today?  You can “Light It Up Blue.”  Join Autism Speaks and landmarks across the world, and use a blue tinted light bulb to shine awareness on Autism today!

Happy World Autism Awareness Day!
